Hi, everybody.
I think monsoons are about as common in Utah as mountains are here; everybody thinks they know what they are, but they really have no idea. I am enjoying the rain, when I don't have to bike in it and waterproof the world.
It's good that you all got bowling shoes. It'll save you quite a bit of money with how much it sounds like you've gone bowling.
I do remember Gideon talking about the Nerf Dart Tag League. It's super awesome that he's a potential finalist! Are they not doing the regional competitions this year? I'll be hoping for both of you that he gets the trip to Florida. He'd have so much fun.
Utah finally allows some fun fireworks?!?! Awesome! That's probably bad news for a ton of the people who work for fireworks stores in Evanston. There'll be a lot less people going to Evanston to buy fireworks now.
So, because everybody in the Netherlands is on vacation and out of town, we haven't had a ton going on this week, because all of our investigators are out of the country. We did have a couple cool things that happened, like me eating ostrich. (It's really tough, and I think it made me sick on Tuesday.)
On Monday, after we celebrated Harry's birthday (Harry's an 81-year-old ward missionary/high priest group leader who goes out with us almost every day; he's a trooper) by going to a restaurant, we went and did some finding. One guy about twenty minutes after we'd started finding asked us if we wanted to come in, and we taught him the whole Restoration lesson, gave him the Book of Mormon, and set a return appointment. He's super, super positive.
Another miracle that happened this week was on Saturday; we were doing another hour of finding in another part of town, and one of the houses had a girl who seemed pretty positive, but then she got her dad when we asked if she knew anybody who would be interested. He yelled at us and didn't listen when we asked if he knew anybody who would be interested, so we went on. When we finished the other side of the street, the girl came back out to us and apologized for her dad who thought we were Jehovah's Witnesses. Then she asked us what our message was, and we taught her the Restoration very briefly and gave her a copy of the Book of Mormon. She then told us that she was going on vacation soon, but would come to our church when she gets back. It's so cool having miracles like that happen where somebody actually wants to hear the gospel.
This week we went down to Antwerp for zone conference. The Rotterdam and Antwerp zones had it together, so I got to see the people currently serving in Rotterdam and Utrecht, most of whom I had met while I was serving in Rotterdam during my first transfer. We learned about the "culture" of our mission, and it was pretty uplifting. Afterward, we went to a member appointment with our box of copies of the Book of Mormon (20 of them) and our fire extinguisher (8 pounds, from what we were told) to celebrate Elder Schwartz's birthday. After that, we got to bike all the way home from the station, about a twenty minute bike ride, with the copies of the Book of Mormon and the fire extinguisher. Luckily, I could fit half the books in my backpack, and so we attached the other half to the rack on Elder Schwartz's bike (mine doesn't have anything to hold stuff down) and got them home that way.
The Church is true. I love you all.
