So, this week has been really interesting, as well as a really good way of strengthening my testimony of the restored gospel. Throughout the last week (starting a few moments after I logged off last week), I've been coming into contact with a lot of people from different religions, all of whom don't notice the blatant contradictions in their beliefs.
After I stood up to put on my coat last week when I was done emailing, a man came up to me and introduced himself to me, and asked if I had a pen. I let him use one, and he wrote down his number on his business card and said that he wanted to meet with us. We called him on Thursday, and Elder Taylor and Elder Andrews (one of the assistants) taught him while we were on exchanges. He happens to be a Mooney, meaning he worships a Korean man (whose last name is Moon) who says that Jesus appeared to him in a dream and told him that he's responsible for finishing Christ's mission (which He apparently didn't finish). Or something like that. The whole thing screams "False Messiah!" He had a journalist friend with him, who wanted to document Mormon missionaries discussing the book that he gave to Elder Taylor and Elder Andrews. It's obvious from the table of contents, however, that the book is chock-full of contradictions and doesn't even come close to equaling the pure, divine truth of the Book of Mormon.
On Saturday, we taught (had an "enlightened duscussion" with) a former investigator whom we had looked up the previous week. She and her husband couldn't decide whether they were atheist, agnostic, Christian, or Buddhist. She would say something, and then say something later that proved that she wasn't really sure about what she believed. But she and her husband made it clear to us that they're not interested in changing, but they claim to be open to new ideas.
Probably the hilight of my week was studying the Book of Mormon special issue of the Liahona yesterday morning and today. I love how powerfully it testifies of the divinity of the Book of Mormon, and helps us recognize how we can apply it in our lives. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (De Kerk van Jezus Christus van de Heiligen der Laatste Dagen) is the true church as established by Jesus Christ and restored through his prophet, Joseph Smith. I know that the Book of Mormon, together with the Bible, contains the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and can help us gain eternal salvation, and I say (or type this) in the name of Jesus christ. Amen. I love you all.
