Dear everybody,
It was a quite unpleasant surprise when everything (besides us) started going more slowly after the holidays. People are either still on vacation, have just left for vacation, or we haven't been able to contact them since their vacation. But we've been working hard, making it around some really weird circumstances.
On Thursday, we had Zone Conference, and we've really learned how to improve our companionship study and to focus it more on our investigators. We also learned how we can ask better questions, and that yes/no questions don't really help anybody think (unless, as I've learned, it's a fight between mind and stomach).
I really don't know what's up with Sphinx. He's just being really stubborn and not realizing that the collar and tags are for his own protection.
It's good that Megan's having so much fun at school. And Salt Lake sounds like a really exotic tour destination. I'm jealous. :P
I'm glad that Andrew enjoyed participating in Nick's wedding, and also that Nick enjoyed his wedding. I think that's the most important part.
Only in Utah would you be lucky enough to have a bridal shop know exactly how to alter dresses for people who are getting married in the temple. I think that a lot of Dutch members have to order their dresses. But I think everybody involved was pleasantly surprised when Shani found her dress quickly.
It seems like you guys have been having a lot of stake conferences lately. I think it's cool, and you'll really enjoy the one with Elder Oaks.
It is a good thing that Kyle called the police immediately. I hope they can find out who did it quickly. I know from seeing scenes from shows like CSI, Criminal Minds, and NCIS that law enforcement is really good at identifying guns, as well as figuring out who did things.
I try to always keep in mind that I'm always sowing seeds. Did I ever tell you the story we heard at a fireside in the MTC about Sammy Sosa and how he remembers playing baseball with the missionaries growing up? I hope I'm sowing some seeds like that.
This week we got a pleasant surprise. At branch council meeting on Tuesday, they were discussing the trip for baptisms for the dead last weekend, and they weren't sure if they would be able to have enough men to pull it off. They were two short. So Herman de Bruijn, one of President Brubaker's counselors (councilors?), looked at us and asked us if we were allowed to go. We said that we weren't sure, so he grabbed his phone and left the room. Then he came back in and said, "Elders, it looks like you guys are invited." So we went to the temple to help with the ordinances (we did confirmations; there was still a slight question about whether or not missionaries were allowed to be in the baptismal font in the temple). It was really cool seeing three recent converts all enjoying the temple.
I think that's all I have to say for now. The Church is true. I love you all.
